Melissa Crook Captured

A sigh of relief fell over the net as the author of the second Melissa virus was captured. Our news correspondants recently talked to technological advisors and close friends of the virus writer about what will happen to him.

It seems likely that this guy will be spending close to 20 years in a federal prison. So far everyone we've talked to agreed that he should recieve such a sentence. He bought down e-mail servers all around this planet! It is now known that Melissa is more a worm than a virus, but the general classification is a virus. It has yet to destroy user's data though unauthorized access of some computers have been blamed on the virus. I wouldn't be surprised if the hacker released the new strains of the virus 'cause he knew the FBI was on his tail (for once the lousy internet security helped us!). These new strains came out the day and day before his arrest.

Close friends said they weren't surprised about him doing such things. They also say that soon another hacker will pick up where he left off and continue with Melissa.

At least we can rest assure that the virus writer has met his match, the United States Government. This came (as rumors have it) because Microsoft complained to them about how their servers on MSN were almost inoperable thanks to the virus. OverTech Technologies itself has been effected by this virus. One of it's web servers had to be shut down as a precaution and so far 1 employee at OverTech Technologies has spread the virus to perhaps the entire company. Nearly every person on the web has been affected by the virus in one way or another. Symentec's Norton Anti-Virus Live Update server was bought to a dead hault for people rushing (almost fatally) to get the virus update. OverTech Technologies's Target: Melissa site became the most busy of OverTech sites overnight.

AOL still has to recouperate since the virus was written by and AOLer (we know what you're thinking, and we're thinking the same thing <g>) and AOL's e-mail server was the first to be bought to a dead hault (for people who used AOL, we already know their server is always at a dead hault). This hacker united the efforts of 2 leading competitors and I hope he has one good lawyer.
